[] STEMS Search Engine Beta Released New

The Beta version of the STEMS search engine has been released. The search engine allows for categorical, keyword, or mixed searches. Categories include Organization, Personnel, and Species. Further narrowing can be done by status code, area, tracking ID, or total sponsorship.

Many more searching functions are to come. Some in-progress changes include viewing total contribution by a particular organization, and narrowing results by an organization's relationship to the task (i.e. 'lead', 'sponsor', etc.).

To search for tasks, click on 'Data Search' on the top navigation bar.

[] Row highlighting and Editing Features added New

In order to make task and personnel maintenance easier, row highlighting and editing features have been added throughout the STEMS site.

Holding the mouse pointer over a clickable row in any table in the site, will result in that row being highlighted. If the row highlights, then clicking on it will allow you to either view or edit the data in the row depending upon where you are in the site.

[] STEMS Beta Development Effort Nearing Completion

In mid-March, the STEMS development team plans to demo the functional result of the beta development effort to several high-ranking members of the Army Corps of Engineers. The developers hope to show the ease of which Managers, Administrators, and the public alike will be able to find and manage information related to exotic species removal in Everglades National Park.

[] Task Management Section of STEMS Completed

The Task Management Section of the STEMS interface has been completed. The Task-management section is the subsystem that allows Task Managers to add, remove, and modify task information. This is also where associations between people and tasks and organizations and tasks will be added. Some calculations are already being performed by the system such as the total number of sponsorship dollars that are allocated toward a particular task.

[] STEMS to Store Species in a Unique and Dynamic Way

In general the STEMS database will contain a dynamic table called TASK_SUBJECT_COLUMNS that will be used to store the column names of the TASK_SUBJECTS table. The number of row entries in the TASK_SUBJECTS_COLUMNS table will determine the number of columns in the TASK_SUBJECTS table.

In terms of STEMS, the TASK_SUBJECTS_COLUMNS table will contain the following entries:

  • Genus - The Genus the species belongs to
  • Epithet - The identifying Epithet of the scientific name
  • Common Name - The species non-scientific name
  • Photo Path - A path to a photo or icon of the species
